Operations Manager Appointment at CEM

June 24, 2011

Dear Members and Friends of Canada East Mission,

It is with great joy that I announce a new addition to the CEM staff. Elder Tim Stanlick of the Guelph congregation is joining our team effective July 1, 2011. Tim has been assigned the role of Operations Manager.

Tim’s first task will be to assemble a cross-Canada team to plan and organize the many details of the June 16, 2012 Canadian National Conference. Over time, he will also take over some of the responsibilities that currently fall on the desk of the Mission President. This will allow me to work more effectively on the goals outlined in the 2020 Vision first presented at the 2009 Mission Conference.

Tim’s business career as well as his experience in ministry, including time in pastoral leadership, have prepared him well for this role. All of us in the office are excited to welcome Tim, and look forward to working with him. His positive outlook, thoughtful approach, and calm manner will be a blessing to Canada East Mission.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Tim as we continue our quest to fulfill the Mission of Jesus Christ.

Carman Thompson
Mission President

Special Guest Speaker Mike Nickerson at Healing & Freeing Retreat

Join us in this great opportunity to hear a well-known speaker, Mike Nickerson, Canadian Author, Speaker, Researcher, ENVIRONMENTALIST

Will be the Weekend Guest Speaker at the Healing and Freeing Retreat July 15 – 22, 2011

Mike is from Lanark, Ontario but his message of sustainable living is universal and so timely in our society today..
So what does sustainable living have to do with spirituality and consciousness? Everything!
Every single day, every single choice you make from what you eat, what kind of a car you drive to how much water or electricity you use affects the environmental resources, the future of the planet and our collective happiness. Every day you can choose to make these choices consciously from a point of unity for the whole planet, rather than the singularity of selfishness or greed.

Mike explains where his passion came from for spreading this message, how economic growth and decline really works, how to live within planetary limits, voluntary simplicity and so much more! Mike offers ideas and explains how we can become part of the solution, and be guardians of the Earth to ensure a viable and promising future.

Mike leaves us with the question of direction – “where we are going, depends on what we see as the goal for our future” and shares some breakthrough ideas of how we can work less and have more, as we take on a mature role of caring for our home – planet Earth..

In the context of today’s society, a more-bigger-better mentality could mean the end of us. "Now that we have reached planetary limits and our biggest problems come from our size, we have to look at and reassess whether we want to continue to grow until we drop or aim for sustainability." The industrialized world’s consumer culture of the 20th century is where the culpability lies. According to Nickerson, "We are human beings, not human havings."
