Priesthood Calls in CEM

April 24, 2010

To the members and friends of Canada East Mission;

It is with a great sense of joy that we share the following calls to the High Priesthood of the Community of Christ.

  • Vivian Beeching of GTA-West Congregation is called to the ministry of High Priest/Bishop.
  • Roger Dodson of Toronto (Bathurst St.) Congregation is called to the ministry of High Priest.
  • Wayne Freer of LaSalle Road Congregation is called to the ministry of High Priest.
  • Dwight Fryer of Monetville Congregation is called to the ministry of High Priest.
  • Heather Fryer of Monetville Congregation is called to the ministry of High Priest/Evangelist.
  • Twyla Glassford of Windsor Congregation is called to the ministry of High Priest.
  • Marilyn Graham of Lowbanks Congregation is called to the ministry of High Priest.
  • Carole Heathers of Stratford Congregation is called to the ministry of High Priest/Evangelist.
  • Linda Porter of Wiarton Congregation is called to the ministry of High Priest.

Each call has been presented by our former Apostle, Mary Jacks Dynes, and approved by the Council of Twelve Apostles and the First Presidency of the church. Vivian’s call has also been approved and supported by the Presiding Bishopric.

We, the CEM leadership team, look forward with anticipation to working with each of these ministers in the years to come. Their ministry in this expanded role will be a blessing to the church and to Canada East Mission. Each ordinand will study the required coursework in the coming months. Their calls will then be presented to the October 16, 2010 CEM conference for approval, with ordination to follow. We invite the church to offer their prayerful support to each of them.

Pastors are invited to share this information with your congregation.

It is our belief that there are still further calls to the High Priesthood to be realized in our Mission Centre. As we attempt to follow God into the future of the work in our area, we look forward to more announcements of this nature in the years to come.

With deep gratitude,

Carman Thompson
Mission President

Canadian Congregations - Haiti Contributions

Thank you!

In addition to what is being done at the World Church level in support of church members in Haiti, the members of the Community of Christ in Canada have contributed over $56,000 to the Oblation Fund in January and February in support of relief efforts.

These funds are being sent to the Canadian Red Cross where they will be matched by the Federal Government. The  Canadian Council of Christian Charities has confirmed with CIDA that the donations given by individuals to a church that are forwarded to another Canadian registered charity doing the work in Haiti would be matched by the Federal Government.

This means that your donations to the Oblation Fund during the period designated by CIDA and which are sent to the Canadian Red Cross will be part of matching program. In other words, $112,000 is now at work assisting those affected by this terrible event.

Your continued contributions to the Oblation Fund will assist the good work that World Church is doing to assist our Haitian friends and will replenish the fund so that oblation ministry can continue throughout the church.

Thank you for your generous response.

Jim Poirier, Bishop of Canada
Mike Hewitt, Canada East Mission Centre Financial Officer
Greg Goheen, Canada West Mission Centre Financial Officer
