NEW Mission Centre Financial Officer

Announcement for New Mission Centre Financial Officer:

I am pleased to announce that High Priest Kerry Richards has accepted the position of Mission Centre Financial Officer for Canada East Mission Center. Kerry is a member of the Hamilton, Ontario, Community of Christ, where he has been active in congregational leadership and small group ministry. As a former Seventy, he retains a heart for mission, and he has served in a variety of leadership positions through the years. He is the current President of the Board for the Sionito and Zerin non-profit, low income housing projects affiliated with Community of Christ, and a board member of the Bill McMurray Residence housing project. Professionally he has held positions of sales, marketing manager, sales management, business development, franchise director and VP sales and marketing. His business experience will provide a good foundation of skills for the role of Mission Centre Financial Officer.

He will begin working with Mike Hewitt on August 1, with orientation and training for his new responsibilities. When Mike officially retires as MCFO on September 1, Kerry will be ready to assume the role. He brings to this role a positive, innovative personality full of energy, hope, and dedication to the mission and message of Community of Christ.

Kerry and his wife Shelley live in Stoney Creek within commuting distance of the Guelph Office. They have three grown children: Lindsay, Ryan, and Jaime. May God’s blessing rest with the entire family as Kerry transitions into his new responsibilities.

Temple School Course at Reunion

Doug Bolger will be teaching the Temple School class CL950 Improving Adult Education at three of our reunions this year: July 1-4 at Loaves & Fishes (Ziontario); July 29-Aug.1 at Erie Beach Family Camp; and August 12-15 at Noronto Family Camp. Times will be listed on the individual camp schedules. This course is ideal for Adult Church School teachers, Bible Study group leaders, Priesthood meetings, Temple School teachers and virtually any gathering of adults where effective communication is vital.

Ottawa Community Peace Day Event

Community Peace Day
May 25, 2013
10am-2pm

Join your neighbours for a day of fun, food, games and learning about peace. On Saturday May 25, the Peacemobile Ottawa Valley will be stopping at 888 Byron Avenue from 10am-2pm. The Peacemobile - an interactive museum dedicated to teaching peacemaking through a series of hands-on exhibits and activities - is geared towards children and their families, and will leave each child with a Colouring and Activity Book to keep. The event will also feature face painting, carnival games, a BBQ, bake sale and a bouncy castle! This will be a day of free fun for the whole family, so bring everyone along and enjoy the outdoor activities at our first-ever Community Peace Day.

World Accord seeking to hire a Program Officer

World Accord supports sustainable long-term development overseas by partnering with local organizations to promote equitable, locally-led responses to poverty and injustice. The program officer will have lead responsibility for coordinating relations with international partners, and with resourcing World Accord’s education and engagement work in Canada. This is a one-year contract with the opportunity to transition to full-time permanent status.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading or supporting the organization in the following key areas:

1. Partnership Animation:

Maintaining effective engagement and communication with international partners, including planning, and capacity building.

2. Administration & Reporting:

Preparing and managing program budgets, agreements and reports.

3. Engaging Canadians:

Designing and delivering educational resources and materials. Planning and leading exposure and learning trips to countries with active partners and programming. Maintaining World Accord’s public presence through articles, public presentations, and online resources.

The successful candidate will have:

• A proven track record of managing international or community development programs – minimum five years of experience.

• An advanced degree in a relevant field of studies.

• A sound understanding of international development and sustainability issues, and how these relate to local concerns and action.

• Broad knowledge and commitment to the use of inclusive, anti-oppression and participatory approaches and methodologies in their work.

• The ability to manage and maintain equitable, respectful and inclusive institutional and personal relations across varied cultural, religious, and cross-cultural settings.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for various publics.

• A superior organizational and budget management skills.

• Good command of verbal and written Spanish.

• The ability to travel internationally and in Canada.

• A very high level of personal integrity.

• The drive to ensure deadlines are never missed.

This is a one-year contract position that can lead to permanent employment for the successful candidate. There is a requirement for substantial international travel with this position and the ability to work and travel independently is crucial.
